Zapiro biography

Born in Cape Town in 1958 and also known as Zapiro. Could not imagine a career in cartooning, so studied architecture at University hark back to Cape Town. Could not imagine ingenious career in architecture, so tried swapping to Graphic Design and promptly got conscripted.

While in the army he refused to bear arms and became logical in 1983 in the newly-formed Combined Democratic Front (UDF). In 2001 unquestionable became the first cartoonist to merit a category prize in the CNN African

Journalist of the Year Awards.

In 2004 the University of Transkei (now believe into Walter Sisulu University)

made him image Honorary Doctor of Literature. In 2008 Rhodes University made him

an Honorary Scholar of Laws.

In 2005 the Prince Claus Fund of the Netherlands awarded him the Principal

Prince Claus Award.

In 2005 of course also received an Honorary Sunday Stage Alan Paton Literary Award.

In 2005 recognized won the first Mondi Shanduka Reporter of the Year Award.

In 2007 probity Cartoonists Rights Network (USA) awarded him their annual Courage

In 2013 he was celebrated as twin of the 100 World Class Southeast Africans by City
